Some nights you got to take an L and others you got to take more than one. Tonight was definitely one of those nights. There was plenty going on tonight, lots of people having lots of fun, Austin Pride, Misfits, and Saturday night in general. Some of those folks having too much fun.
I had found a decent little flow, but first ride of power hour, I must have lost part of my touch in reading people’s inebriation levels, because the nice couple that got in my cab to go to their lodgings, was half sensible shoes, clear speech, good at directions of where to go, and the other I thought was just quiet. Well quiet, was hammered, I glanced back and saw a bit of a slouch and asked sensible wife if high heeled wife was ok, and she assured me she was. So I kept on riding. When we get to the drop off I noticed a nice tip notification, but high-heeled wife was head between her knees and her and my cab were glistening, but not in a way that had anyone feeling shiny.
It has been over 15 years (probably more, but I don’t know exacts) since I let a puker sneak past me into the seats of my cab, and that one had the courtesy to puke off of the side, much easier to clean up.
But sometimes the bar gets you, and that’s a risk of this job because the person the bar got, tends to pay it forward. Thankfully, the sensible wife was very gracious about it, and payed a cleanup fee, with the assurance that high-heeled wife would be paying her back in the morning.
So while I had to do the less glamorous work of cleaning puke off of floorboards and a seat cover, and gear bag, I may have had the easier night. Since I wasn’t having to clean it off of a person.
